5 tips to motivate yourself to get moving

With the grey weather settling in, temperatures dropping, and good TV shows starting again, it’s not always easy to stay motivated to move and remain active during the colder season. The temptation to stay indoors, wrapped in a blanket by the fireplace, can seem very appealing, but it’s not always the best choice if you want to come back strong in the spring.
Here are 5 tips to help you stay motivated and active this winter!
First, find a time slot in your schedule that can be reserved for your activity. Plan this moment like an appointment with yourself and don’t cancel it! Whether it’s 30 minutes or 1 hour, 1 to 7 times per week, take this time for yourself.
Find an activity that YOU enjoy, not something that feels like a chore. It’s important to have fun while being physically active. When you enjoy the activity, it becomes much easier to stay motivated and you won’t feel the urge to postpone it.
Find a partner in crime! Someone you can share your activity with, laugh with, and take on new challenges together. Two heads are better than one! It’s much easier to stay motivated when someone is there to encourage you to push yourself.
Set a goal. Whether it’s to feel comfortable in your holiday outfit, to be in better shape for the start of your next sports season, or simply to survive the endless snow shoveling, set a clear objective that will encourage you to keep going.
Finally, stay consistent! It’s much harder to start again after taking a long break. You will see results much faster if you stay focused on your goal and stick to the time slot you’ve reserved for your activity.
The benefits of physical activity can be felt very quickly: better sleep, more energy, improved productivity, and healthier eating habits. So why go without it? Remember to respect your limits and listen to your body. If you have any doubts, your physiotherapist at Évolution Physio will always be available to answer your questions!
