Frozen Shoulder Program
Adhesive capsulitis, commonly known as frozen shoulder, is a painful shoulder condition that may occur without a specific cause or be triggered by certain medical conditions such as diabetes, or by trauma, for example following surgery. It is characterized by fibrosis within the shoulder joint capsule, which leads to significant loss of mobility in the joint.
One of the medical procedures used to treat this condition is distension arthrography. This procedure involves injecting fluid into the joint capsule, including a saline solution and an anti-inflammatory medication, in order to stretch the capsule, restore shoulder mobility and reduce pain. Studies have shown that distension arthrography combined with physiotherapy treatments can significantly improve recovery time. The addition of physiotherapy sessions that include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise instruction and electrotherapy can provide greater benefits than the procedure alone.
At Évolution Physio, physiotherapists work closely with radiologists to treat patients who have undergone distension arthrography within hours following the procedure. If you believe you may be suffering from frozen shoulder, consult your physiotherapist first. They can confirm the diagnosis, begin treatment and teach you the appropriate exercises to perform. If a distension arthrography is already scheduled, contact one of our five clinics to book an appointment with a physiotherapist within four hours following the procedure.
